What to Wear to a Wedding

With social distancing a thing of the past, love is well and truly in the air. For many, engagement and wedding plans have been on hold, and with venues reopened, gatherings possible and many looking to make up for lost time, wedding’s are back on the table.

Whether you’re tying the knot yourself, or a groomsman-to-be, an incredible suit will have you looking and feeling your best on the special day. Better yet, like the memories from the day, a quality, well-made suit should last you a lifetime. A wedding is the perfect opportunity to opt for purchase over suit hire and ready your wardrobe with a touch of timeless style for future events.

At RJB Design, we take pride in helping men find the perfect mens suits or wedding guest attire for the big day.

But where do you start?

First, it’s important to consider what kind of suit you’re looking for.

Finding The Right Fit

When deciding what to wear at a wedding, there are a number of factors at play. From the time of year and day, to the venue, the colour scheme you’ve chosen, and your own personal style. From churches and lavish venues to a home or beach wedding, there are a number of situations that call for different dress codes. A few common themes are:

Classic Black Tie

Black Tie means you should wear black and indicates a highly formal wedding occasion. This is a chance to let your inner film-star shine, opting for a form flattering tuxedo, white tux shirt and black bow tie. While colours are generally off limits with a black dress code, accessories are a great opportunity to personalise your fit. Tailor something to your exact needs, or opt for one of our classic options like the Sloane Dinner Suit by Gibson.

Formal

Formal or Cocktail-wear is your call to dress sharp. While a tux is a step too far, you should aim for a classic office-appropriate suit with blue/navy options providing a smart, contemporary look, tied together with some brown leather shoes like these Italian Brogues by Drudd and a brown belt.

Casual

Casual is that tricky spot where over, and under dressing is a real prospect. In our eyes, it’s always better to fall on the side of the latter and fortunately, there are classic menswear items that can be dressed up or down for semi formal versatility and your confidence on the day.

A blazer like this Beaumaris Window Pane Check option and dress shirt work well, as do a suit, dressed down with no tie.

Whether you have something in mind, or have no clue where to start, RJB Design can help. From Off the Peg/Bespoke suits to Made to Measure options with over 2000 fabrics to choose from, we can guide you through the process from start to finish and help you discover your perfect fit. All of our Bespoke suit options are NZ made. Our hand-made suit options can be personalised with accessories  - everything from cufflinks to pocket squares

If you’re a groomsman and a suit isn’t a preference we have many other options available and enjoy working with you to find just what you need.

At RJB Design we pride ourselves on getting the small touches right. The little details can make all the difference on the day, so we’ll discuss options with you, like getting your ties or pocket squares made from the bridesmaid fabric to ensure a seamless match.

While this can seem like a lot to worry about, we’re here to make it easy.

It all starts with a simple consultation.
